Meteghan?

Today we started learning about a new place in Canada called Meteghan, which is in Nova Scotia.  We looked online and wrote down some questions we have about what it is like there.  Some of our questions is are: are all the house really big and cool?  Do they speak different languages there?
We also talked about the different contents on Earth.  We know our continent is North America.  Tomorrow we are excited to try and find Meteghan on google earth.

We also started learning about liquids.  We know most things that take up spaces are either solids, liquids of gases.  We talked about how in solids the atoms are close together, is liquids they are a little spread our and in a gas they are really spread out and can move all around.

Family Literacy Day

Today we Celebrated Family Literacy Day.  Some of us read to grade 4 and 5's and some of us read to our moms and dads.  Some of us read the Elephant and Piggie books.  We did more research about our Arctic Animals and wore a new page for our books about what they eat.

Very Last First Time

Today we worked on our predicting with the book "My Very Last First Time".  We needed to pick some sensory details to put in our prediction.  Mrs. Milford came to work with us on this.  We picked an A and B partner.  One partner looked at the pictures and the other partner was visualizing what they thought the picture would look like.  The partner not looking at the picture asked questions about that details they thought they needed.  After we switched and the other partner got a turn.
We practice actions that help us exercise our brain like when we make connections to the world,  connections to ourselves or connections to a book.  Ask us to show you them at home tonight.

Inuit Outfits

Today we made paper dolls and then we made some clothes for them based on what they might need to wear if they visited Iqaluit.  Lots of us put fur around their face so they won't get frost bite.  We used felt because it is warm and other materials like pompoms and feather for decorations.

We Know our Doubles

Today in math the Grade 1's learned about adding doubles and the Grade 2's learned about near doubles.  A near double is when one of the numbers in the double goes up or down by one and that makes the answer go down or up by the same amount.  For example if the double is 9+9=18 then the near doubles are 9+8= 17 and 9+10= 19. We made a book about doubles and listen to a song about doubles too.
Ask us to tell you more about that tonight.

Flight to Iqaluit

We coloured a map of Canada and we labelled High River and Iqaluit.  We know that we need to go North East to get there.  Today we wrote about what it would be like to fly from Calgary to Iqaluit.  We wrote things like "I feel nervous." and "I see houses on stilts".

Snowflakes.

Today we added our snowflake to the page we painted yesterday so it looks like a winter window.  We also added white dots to look like little snowflakes.  We made a window frame out of brown paper.  We are excited to finish it tomorrow.
Today we played a game in math with a partner to practice adding. We wanted to get the biggest number.  We rolled 2 dice first and then we crossed out the smallest number and tried to roll one number again to see if we could get an bigger number.  It was fun.
