How do we Show Emotions

Today we read a book about the 3 little wolves and the big bad pig.  The wolves made houses out of concrete and brick and the big bad pig blew them up.  At the end they made a house out of flower and instead of blowing it up he spelled the flower and realized how mean he had been and decided to be nice.
Today we went to Mrs, Saunderson's room to do Zones.  We watched a little bit of a video so we could see how their faces showed feelings.  In gym we did some more skipping.  We did the bell and we skipped backwards.  Some of us thought it was hard.
In Science we made a plan about how we are going to build our 3 little pigs house tomorrow.  We drew a picture of it and wrote all the materials we are going to use for it.  In library we watched a book flix about a book called Duck on Bike.  It was a fiction book and it had animals that talked in it.

Bridges

Today we made bridges with marshmallows and spaghetti.  The bridges have to go across a gap and be strong.  We looked at pictures of bridges for ideas of what shapes to use. It was hard to make them becuase the spagetti broke easily. Tomorrow we are going to test them with a small medium and big billy goat gruff to see if our bridges will hold them up.
We started a new tracking page for our Daily 5.  In work on writing we are writing a book giving our advice to different characters from fairy tale stories.  One was a letter to Cinderella to give her ideas on how she can not be sad anymore.  We read another book about a boy Cinderella and his fairy godmother turned him into a monkey by accident.  At midnight he ran away like the in other stories but in this story he lost his pants!
In math we read a book about Guinea pigs. As Ms. Mahan read the book we wrote the equation that matched the words on our whiteboard.  The number kept getting smaller.  We practiced more subtracting on our whiteboards and with pictures.  We even made up our own subtracting problem.

Jumping Ropes

Today in gym we played with the skipping ropes.  We were trying to jump it and walk with it.  Some of us could do it but  it was hard.
In Science we showed the class our vehicles that could carry Cinderella from her house to the ball.  It was hard to build them.  We learned that it is important to spend time building the big rocks and less time on the decorating because lots of our wheels would not turn.  We also learned important to make a plan first and to choose our supplies carefully.   We are bringing them home to show our parents tonight.
We made a new bean home.  Most of used paper towel and got it wet because we learned last time that that make a good bean home.

Puppets

Today two Grade 3 student came to help us.  Whey came here because most of their class was at the music festival.  In gym we played a few tag games and then we played with the scoops.  We were all sweating because we had to run lots.
In Science we finished making our puppets.  We used brass fasteners to try to connect things.  We did big rocks and little rocks to catch up on our work today.  One of the big rocks were to finish making our coffee filter earth.  We used mostly blue because most of earth is water. After we sprayed water on it and the colours all blended together.  When it dried we glued on a picture of us so it looks like we are each holding the world. They look great.

Cage Those Animals!

Today we had a special guest field trip.  We got to pick our own animal and then put it together  There were holes and cut outs to help us put together our animals.  We made a cage for our animals.  We got to pick what we wanted from a store.  We had to cross out the money pictures on our page to make sure we had enough money to buy all of our stuff.  The animals cages needed to have a toy, some food, a shelter, water and a fence and a few other things.

Today in gym we had our last dance practice.  We kept working on our circle.  We changed it so we now have 1 circle instead of 2.  After we had our last practice we played a game called what time is it Mrs. Wolf.  We also made a picture of rain falling in puddles.  We did this because spring is here.

Some of us went to the book fair. We could go at first recess or at lunch recess if we had a ticket that said admit one to go at recess. There was lots of people there.  Tomorrow we will get lots of time to shop during our library time so we will remember our money.

Student Led Conferences are Tonight

Today in science and we looked through magazines for things made with different building supplies like plastic and wood.  In PE we did more dancing.  We did the Chicken Dance and the YMCA and we tried a tricky dance called the Cadillac Ranch.  In library and we read a book about a teacher who who read a book and the character came to life!
Today we looked through our folder on the IPad and we picked two things that we are most proud of to show our parents at student led conferences tonight or tomorrow night.  Those of us that have student led conferences have all of our stuff ready for them to come visit and we are excited to show it all off.

March is Here

Today in morning meeting we share what we would wish for if we caught a leprechaun.  We did that because today is March first and St. Patrick's day and Easter are in March.  In Daily 5 we made a sheet to track which of the daily 5 we do each day so we can make sure we are practicing all of them.

We all finished our Barbie furniture and all of our picture planning for our books.  Almost everyone's Barbie furniture worked and held Barbie up.    In Music we made a video of mallets, glockenspiels and fairy godmothers to show our parents at student led conferences next week. Parents can book their student led conferences on the computer to come in and see us show off.  

Tomorrow there is a bake sale at school and the money goes to the Calgary Zoo.

Drawing Quails

This morning we drew a quail and then we wrote some sentences about it.  Ms. Mahan told us the steps to draw  it.  It had a curl on the top of its head.  We also read a story about a girl that had a special bunny and a friend in her class had the same bunny.  The book was unique because the background was real picture and the characters with cartoons.
We did two daily 5's again today.  Some of us could not do listening to reading because we did not have headphones so we are going to ask our parents for headphones this weekend.
This afternoon we made a kite with a number under 20 on it.  We colored it with felts and then we painted it with baby oil to make it see through.  We talked about what we want to make out Barbie furniture out of on Monday. Some kids wanted materials that Ms. Mahan does not have so we have a sticky in our black folders to ask our moms and dads if we have that material at home. We are not supposed to spend any money on it if we don't have it!

100 day tomorrow!

Today we did two Daily 5's and we got to pick which one we wanted to do first.  If we did  read to self first then the second time we did work on writing or the other way around.  We loved having a choice. We read 2 Mo Willems books.  One was about a pig and an elephant. The elephant had two birds that built a nest on his head.  We read another Mo Williams book about Edwina.   We also started writing our own book we only wrote 2 pages so far.

We did a KWL chart for our new unit in science about building things.  The K was for what we know and the W is for what we want to learn.  In gym we practiced passing and dribbling the basketball in different ways. 

Tomorrow is 100 day.  We need to bring 100 of something and dress up.
