Lego Charachters

Today we played a game called battleship in math.  We sat back to back with a partner and tried to guess the numbers where are partners ships were.  We played the game on a 50's chart.  It helped us say our numbers to 50.
This morning we made a character out of Lego that we are going to write a story about tomorrow.  We took pictures of our Lego characters.  When we were not making our Lego characters we looked for the IMC books in the class library and listened to reading on Raz Kids.
We read a book about "Anh's Anger" about a boy who got angry because he did not want to stop playing.  He sat with his anger and then they did things together to help his anger go away.  After we read the book we made our own anger monster by painting half a page and then folding it over.
We talked about how people survive winter and designed our mittns and touque and then we glued them on to a picture of ourselves in our visual journal.
We had indoor recess all day because it was too cold out to go outside.

Groundhog Day

Today was Groundhog Day so we watched a video about a groundhog in Pennsylvania and one in Alberta to see if they saw their shadows.  They both did so we have 6 more weeks of winter.  Because it was groundhog day we played Shadow tag and gopher tag at gym.
We painted our last valentine art today before we mail our valentines tomorrow it was a flower with a love bug in the middle.

Heart Charachters

Today we made heart character with different colors and sizes of hearts.  Some people made butterflies, cats, owls and caterpillars and lots of other animals. We also did writing about our love bugs.
We practiced mixing colours with oil pastels to make hearts.  We are  doing lots of Valentines art because it is almost February and because we are doing a Valentines exchange with other schools across Canada. We have to mail our Valentines by Friday so we are working hard to get them done. Today we worked on our writing about things that are only in High River and what makes High River unique and special.

Heart Tree

Today we split up for library by the grades we are in the Grade 1's made a shape with blocks and the Grade 2's sorted shapes. We finished our valentines art by drawing the tree and the hearts to go on the tree.  We also drew a beach and wrote some sentences about a beach together.
Today we had zones and we talked about triggers or things that make us change zone coloura.

Zones of Self Regulation

Today we looked at the Grade 3's journals and wrote down some ideas of what make a good journal entry.  We decided a good journal entry has neat writing, detailed pictures, have capital letters and periods.  They also needed to have who wrote it on the page.
The Grade 2's did a word search about fire safety words because a fire fighter came to talk to us today about safety.  The Grade 1's practiced their sight words with a coloring page.  We are starting to read and these sight words help us become better readers.  
Today we had our first class of Zones of Self Regulation.  We colored pictures of different emotions  and put them on the right colored zone.  There are 4 zones please ask me more about it tonight.

Skipping

Today in gym we did skipping in gym, we tried skipping with our feet together, running, and backwards. It was hard for lots of us.
We split into groups for library one group switched their books in their book box while the other went to the library to get new books, then we swiched so both groups did both activities.
Today we learned some new word work activities.

Welcome Back!

Today we made a snowflake out of different shapes. Some of the shapes we used were  diamonds, hexagons and trapezoids and triangles. We also coloured a page that had pentagons, circles, triangles, and rectangles on it with different colours.
 Today we drew a New Year's baby and then we wrote about what we did over the Christmas holidays.  After then we shared it with the rest of the class.
