Lion or Lamb

Today did some centers about water and we wrote about what we learned.  One of the things some of us wrote was that a drop is a pointy circle shape.  At one of the centers we moved water to different jugs.  We learned that water can change shapes.
We read a book about a brave and a scared lion.  We were reading this book because tomorrow is March and we were predicting if it will come in like a lion or a lamb.  We made the predictions in our journal and we will see what happens tomorrow.

Valentines Day

Today is Valentines Day so we handed out our Valentines to other people.  Today we go went to the library to look at the book fair and we made a wish list of things we want to buy.  It is coming home in our backpack.  When we are not in the library we switched the books in our book box and picked a good fit book to read to our parents tomorrow or Thursday at student led conferences.
Today we read a story about a boy who gave mean valentines to two people but instead of signing his name he put someone else's name on them.  At then end he said sorry and wrote new Valentines.

What is a Boiler

Today we  got the Atlases and we searched for communities we got a valentine from.   Each group read the card to the class and showed us the Valentine.  The rest of the class  tried to find the community.  Some of the communities we got Valentines from were  Baden, Ontario,  Surrey, BC and  Ottawa, Ontario.  We also talked about what was the same or different between those communities and High River.
Today we wrote about our Lego setting and glued the picture into our writing book.  We logged into the laptops and tried out some sites about heating things up and cooling them down.
Miss Christine came to show us the boiler in our school.  The boiler is how the school is heated.  There was a pipe that had gas in it to make the fire.  Please ask us more about it tonight.  

Tomorrow is Canaval so we will be outside all afternoon.  We need to dress appropriately.

Lego Setting

Today we built the setting for our story out of Lego.  Tomorrow we will write about them.  When we were not at Lego building we did a flight check and talked about things that change when the temperature changes.
Today at first recess we could to to the Learning Commons to buy Candygrams.  They are $1 and they will be delivered on Valentines day to our friends.
We had Zones of Self Regulation today we talked about belly breathing and the signs our bodies give us that we need to use a strategy to get back to green zone.  We talked about what zone we might be in different situations. We also drew a picture of ourselves in one of the zones.    
In Science we put an ice cube in a bag and tried to not make it melt.  We could wrap the ice cube with paper, tin foil, mittens or plastic.  We learned that a mitten is the best insulator.

Lego Charachters

Today we played a game called battleship in math.  We sat back to back with a partner and tried to guess the numbers where are partners ships were.  We played the game on a 50's chart.  It helped us say our numbers to 50.
This morning we made a character out of Lego that we are going to write a story about tomorrow.  We took pictures of our Lego characters.  When we were not making our Lego characters we looked for the IMC books in the class library and listened to reading on Raz Kids.
We read a book about "Anh's Anger" about a boy who got angry because he did not want to stop playing.  He sat with his anger and then they did things together to help his anger go away.  After we read the book we made our own anger monster by painting half a page and then folding it over.
We talked about how people survive winter and designed our mittns and touque and then we glued them on to a picture of ourselves in our visual journal.
We had indoor recess all day because it was too cold out to go outside.

Groundhog Day

Today was Groundhog Day so we watched a video about a groundhog in Pennsylvania and one in Alberta to see if they saw their shadows.  They both did so we have 6 more weeks of winter.  Because it was groundhog day we played Shadow tag and gopher tag at gym.
We painted our last valentine art today before we mail our valentines tomorrow it was a flower with a love bug in the middle.
