Grinch Day

]
Today we finished our Christmas trees with oil pastels.  We added the house and then lines on the window and some snow.
We did a guided draw of the Grinch because today is Grinch Day.
In the bag today we found the movie and the book How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
We watched the movie and read the book and talked about how they were different:
  - In the book they did not show Cindy Lou going up to the Grinch's house.
- In the book Cindy Lou had antennas on her head and in the movie she had tall hair.
- In the book they did not tell us about Cindy Lou going to the post office and the Grinch saving her from the sorting machine.
- In the book they did not have the bog clock counting down the days to Christmas.

At the end of the day we went to the gym and sang Christmas carols with the rest of the school.

Reindeer Rebellion!

The book in the bag today was about the reindeer.   They told Santa they were not flying the sleigh until they got some thing like a hot tub and milk and cookies.  Before we finished the book we wrote down what we thought we would ask for if we were the reindeer!   We made a reindeer with different colours of shapes.  Lots of us used red for the nose and black and white for the eyes.
In math The Grade 2's were practicing adding and then colouring things to match the answer.  The grade 1's had a mystery number page. We had music today because we did not have music yesterday.  We started making a present for our parents but we can not tell you what it is because it is a surprise.

There is a note about caroling in our backpack we need to bring it back to school ON MONDAY!

Popcorn Day!

Popcorn
Today for morning work we coloured squares on a 100 chart different colours and when we were done it turned into a Santa mouse.  The book in the Bag was "If you Take a Mouse to the Movies" and some popcorn.
We had library in the morning because we didn't have library yesterday.  In math the Grade 2 helped the mouse from the book some math problems.  The Grade 1's played a game about numbers to 20.  We flipped over the purple cards and then put a block on the number that we saw on the card.  We tried to get 3 in a row.
In Science we made a thermometer with a red and white string.  We put the string trough a thermometer and then tied the strings together.  We looked up the temperature in Hawaii (+25), High River (-12) and Toronto(-5) and made out thermometers go to that temperature.
We  also learned why popcorn pops.  It is because there is water inside the popcorn kernel gets hot and when it heats up it makes the kernel explode. We had popcorn and watched the magic School bus Christmas show all about recycling.

Let Me Take an Elfie

We have 10 bags hanging on our wall with a book and some activities inside.  Today we opened bag 1 and we will open one bag everyday between now and Christmas holidays.
Today in the bag there was a book about an elf who helped Santa deliver the toys. He liked to take "elfies" with his phone.  There was paper that we used to make elf hats.  Then we took elfies of our favorite things about Christmas.  We also did a guided draw of elf legs and wrote Santa Stop Here on the side.
Inside the bag there was also letters from Santa.  We each got our own envelope with our names on it and a note from Santa.
In the afternoon we had a practice for the Christmas concert that will be tonight.  We practiced both our songs and watched the other classes practice their songs too.  We need to be at the school at 5:10 and stay for both concerts.

DSC_8934 - Georges Island Today the Grade 2's were practicing how to figure out an equation when we don't know the number in the middle.  We used cups to hide the middle number and then we had to fugure out what was the middle number in the equation.  We tried to solve equations on other peoples boards.  The grade 1's practiced making teen numbers with a 10 frames and with base 10 blocks.
We had an assembly and some people came and gave the school a cheque for $500.  We started watching a video at lunch about the Arctic.  We are watching it because it teaches us more about the animals in Iqaluit.
Today we talked about people who used to live in Meteghan called Acadians.  They choose to live there because there were trees and fish.  They got kicked out of their houses by the British.  They could not leave by an airplane because planes were not invented back then.  They went by boats to the United States and Europe.
